VLAN is a logical configuration of a N/W on switch port to segment the IP traffic. Using VLANs reduces hardware needs by allowing a switch to segment IP traffic into multiple IP subnets on a prt by port configuration.
- VLAN’s allow IP subnets to extend beyond the distance limitations of the physical medium.
- A trunk port is a port that has knowledge of all VLANs configured.
Example:- The port that connects each switch to the nearest route is configured as a trunk port.
